I honestly think cis people making "mad skilled nonbinary barista with a septum ring" memes is a positive development. Public consciousness queer representation depicting people like us as just normal working class people who have jobs like they do and skills that they don't. Respect their fucking pronouns or you're not getting your fucking coffee.
The expectation that you will refer to a trans person by their preferred pronouns and name is not them ‘forcing you to accept them’ it is basic respect. You don’t have to like trans people, you don’t have to ‘believe’ our identities or whatever. You do have an obligation to treat us like people, though. If you had a 40 something cis male coworker named Bill and you repeatedly, pointedly and aggressively called him ‘Shirley’ and exclusively used she/her pronouns to refer to him, that would be a major HR problem. It is not persecution to have to show basic human decency.
but for real though the keep gay people away from children thing is so weird because so many teachers are gay. I mean, even historically. lots of gay women became schoolteachers because the job forbid them to marry during the term of their employment and it was a good excuse to keep men away. and I think we all had at least one nebulously gay teacher at our school, often several and it didn’t kill us and they were usually very good at their job.
The thing about scientific research is that 90% of the labyrinth is dead ends. And therefore, every single dead end that we can verify is important information. You really do need to make a peer-reviewed study to prove that no number of vehicular accidents has a statistically meaningful positive impact on bone cancer, just in case your moron cousin Greg decides to get rich by offering people bone cancer cure tours where you drive a monster truck off a cliff.
